Wikieup, Arizona:

So from Freezing Friday, we have progressed to bona fide hot weather. I'm not sure what the temperature was in Las Vegas today, but it was at least the high 80s. 

We camped Sunday night on the gravel area outside Camping World's fence. When they opened we were there.


This morning when we were at Camping World in Las Vegas getting repairs made to the 5er, a German family came over to meet the kitties. They are renting an RV, staying in Las Vegas and then traveling to Los Angeles and San Diego on their holiday.

Our journey took us across the new bridge at Hoover Dam, southeast on US Hwy 93 through Kingman, AZ. We arrived in Wikieup, Arizona at 8:30 pm and got the 5er set up for the night at Dazzo's Desert Oasis Chicago Eatery and RV Park. This is a Passport America Park which cost us $10 for the night!

The kitties are more used to the car. From time to time they meow and make a fuss, but have taken to sleeping more. We stop about every one to two hours and open up the windows and tailgate to let them see and sniff where we are. They seem to enjoy that. We also put them in the RV for 15 minutes or so when we stop so they can drink water, stretch, lounge around or play. 

Bob and I went for a walk along the bike trail next to Hwy 93. It was a pleasant evening which had cooled to 66 degrees. Stars were exceptionally pretty because it's a clear evening and there aren't many city lights here. It's a very small town.

This is the land of cacti: saguaro, barrel, prickly pear, ocatillo and other kinds we haven't yet learned the names of. In the morning, I'll get some pics.

Tonight while walking, we saw lots of bats flying about eating bugs. Bob said one flew close to my head. "Good," I said, "it's eating the bugs." (mosquitoes, gnats and little beetles)

As we were walking, we both saw small, yellow, circular lights high in the sky that moved in a very precise formation from one light to the next, about seven lights in all. We could not figure out what the lights were. They were not fireworks or airplanes. In the morning we will ask the owner of the RV Park if he knows what they were.

Tomorrow, we will continue to Carefree, Arizona to have lunch with Bob's Aunt and Uncle. 

Walmart's parking lot is our destination for tomorrow night. (I've heard the term "Wallydocking" used for camping at Walmart on some other RV'ers blogs.)

Wednesday night will also be spent in the Phoenix area to visit some good friends from Oregon who moved there. The temperatures in Phoenix are predicted to be in the 90s.

We are not having much luck with free wi-fi on this trip. The places we stay want us to pay extra for the connection, but we're not doing that. I'll do my best to keep up with the A-Z Challenge, but some entries may be late.
