Back to Normal -- Tues., July 10

San Antonio and Blanco, Texas:

The vertigo is gone today, but I did stick around the 5er until early afternoon to make sure I felt well enough to go out.

I hit Walmart, AAA (for maps), and then headed north to Blanco and stopped at the first stand I came to that said "Fresh Peaches & Vegetables."

Nice roadside stand.
Peaches!
Summer squash.
I bought a small box of peaches, yellow summer squash and cherry tomatoes. When we finish this batch, I will make another foray north for more peaches and other fruits and vegetables.

South Texas is getting thunder, lightning and rain. Driving north to Blanco this afternoon, a few rain showers gave my car a bath, removing another layer of caliche dust. Car detailing is in the Escape pod's future to remove the caliche dust from all the nooks and crannies.

Today, Bob took his truck in for an oil change, air filter, brake fluid and transmission fluid.  We're getting our vehicles serviced after being in the oil fields on bumpy, dirty back roads. His truck is especially important because it will be pulling the 5er to Yellowstone in a little over a week. We still have a few 5er repairs that need to be made before we go.

That's it for today; pretty quiet here.

Enjoy your Wednesday.

  1. Just found you through hitchitch and thought with a daughter relocated recently to Lytle, I might enjoy reading about that part of the world a bit more. Nice.

  2. Thank you, Sue. Is your daughter working in the oil fields gate guarding or?

Where did she relocate from? How is she enjoying the heat/rain/dust?

Our life has sure been an adventure. It's nice being in San Antonio...such a beautiful place. We especially enjoy the surrounding Texas Hill Country, which is a bit north of Lytle.

Thanks for joining us on our journey.

    1. This will be my fourth time to Yellowstone, Bob's fourth time as well, but only our second time together. We absolutely love Yellowstone and all the geologic features there. So unique in all the world.

The last time we were in Yellowstone together, we hiked 80 miles in a week. This trip, we have four Volkswalks planned and we'll add all the other hikes in on top of those. We'll also be stopping and hiking along the way to Yellowstone at Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Grand Tetons and maybe Mesa Verde. We'll see how the trip shakes out.

After all our sitting on our duffs gate guarding, we can't wait to get out more and stretch our legs!

  4. I was just wondering when fresh Michigan peaches and cherries would be showing up at our local stores because the last time I bought both of those at the grocery store they weren't as flavorful as I thought they could be. Nothing like fresh!
