Riverwalk Christmas Lights -- Sat., Dec. 22

Lighted horse-drawn carriages were plentiful downtown.

After a quiet day (sleeping in and spending 20 minutes in the hot tub this afternoon), we wanted some excitement so we headed to Riverwalk San Antonio on what must be the most crowded night of the year. First, we had trouble finding parking. The in-town parking lots were charging $7.00 to $15.00 and up for weekend parking. Downtown was car gridlocked. Finally we parked a few blocks out of downtown at parking meters that do not need to be fed after 6:00 p.m.

The Riverwalk Christmas decorations at night are magical. All the trees have multi-colored lights, and businesses along the Riverwalk have added their decorations to the festive mix. I tried to capture the essence of the lights. Alas, photos don't do it justice.

All the boats were completely full.
We had pictured ourselves riding a riverboat through the fairyland, BUT the lines were atrocious. Quickly nixed that idea and walked instead. Not much better. We also contemplated eating dessert at one of the many restaurants along the Riverwalk. Ha! They all had waiting lines.

The walkways were PACKED with people, even more so where the boat ride lines were lining the walkway. We finally said enough and exited the Riverwalk. We had to remember where we parked our car and did some extra walking trying to find it.

Bob headed north on Broadway because he heard the Christmas lights at University of the Incarnate Word were good. Wow! All the trees were loaded with lights and some of the buildings had lights on them. It was definitely pretty.

H-E-B Central Market was next door so I said to Bob, "Let's go there for dessert!" They have a patisserie where we picked out our desserts which were much cheaper than anything we would have found at the Riverwalk eateries. I had a large slice of strawberry whipped cream cake ($2.99). Bob enjoyed his apricot white chocolate muffin ($1.99). We also picked up some treats to go.

Now we are home listening to TSO music. Sunnie is on the table wedged between our two back-to-back laptops. Life is good.

Tomorrow we move a few sites over in the RV park and we can stay there as long as we want. (At one time they didn't have any sites available after Feb. 28. Thankfully something opened up.)

Our list of movies to see is growing. We have added "Silver Lining Playbook" on the recommendation of our friend Curt. Thanks, Curt.

Time to go to bed and read before drifting off.

Travel Bug out (like a light).

  1. That walk looks lovely all lit up with twinkling lights; it's given me a hankering to find some around JAX.

  2. The Riverwalk is so pretty, I am sure it is worth fighting the crowds for. I have never been there at Christmas time though. Have a Merry Christmas.
