Zero Dark Thirty -- Fri., Jan.18

Whoa! Stop! Make a 180 degree change. I went to the movie theater to see "Les Miserables." When I checked the movie listings after midnight for today (Friday), the theater I planned to go to still showed "Les Miserables" playing at noon.

Went there, asked the ticket booth for one ticket to "Les Mis"and he says, "It's not here anymore." Crestfallen. I'll have to see it at another theater next week before it's gone from all of them.

So what to do when "Les Mis" AND "Anna Karenina" are no longer at the theater you're at? Why go see "Zero Dark Thirty," of course. Talk about switching gears on the type of movie you expected to see. Wow.

The movie is based on true events (but not entirely factual) which led to finding and killing Usama bin Laden. The story is exciting, well written, and intense. Expect to see torture in the form of waterboarding and humiliation to try to find bin Laden through intelligence-gathering sessions. This is a war movie. I was tired but did not come close to snoozing in this one. The dialogue is hard to understand in a number of places due to warehouse-like echoing and foreign accents. Bob wants to see it too, so I will probably see it again with him. Maybe I'll catch more dialogue next time.

As for the rest of the day, I got up early and hit the laundry at 7:30 a.m. I took up all eight machines because I washed the quilt, the afghan, and the rugs in addition to all the normal loads.

Once the laundry was done, I went to Costco to pick up my hearing aid which had been sent in for repair and finally made it back to San Antonio. It's so nice to have it back because it's for my ear that's almost deaf. I love Costco. The repair cost $135, period. Even though my hearing aid was beyond repair and they had to replace it, it still only cost the $135 repair fee, PLUS it comes with a one-year warranty. I have no idea what was wrong with it.

Then I went to the movie. After the movie, I bought a few items at CVS and Walmart, and headed back to the 5er. Bob came home shortly after that. We ate dinner and headed out for the Spurs/Warriors game at the AT&T Center.

The first half of the game was spent by the teams trading baskets. It broke open and became much more exciting in the third quarter. The fourth quarter belonged to the Spurs who ended up winning. Very exciting battle on the hardwood.

Tomorrow, we'll be off on a new Volkswalk...haven't decided where yet, maybe Scherz or New Braunfels.

Talk to you tomorrow.

Over and out.

  1. We saw Zero Dark Thirty last week, thus my blog entitled Proud to be An American. Sure makes you appreciate living in the US doesn't it? And...you are right it was hard to understand at times, and those names, wow learning to pronounce them. I'm glad we saw it but I don't think I want to see it again.

  2. Sounds like a really day. We'll probably wait for Zero Dark Thirty to come out on dvd. We rarely go to a theater to see a movie.

  3. Thanks for the review ... we are thinking about going to see this movie. Anna Karenina is playing at a "membership" movie ... will have to see what that's all about and see if it's worth the $s.

    1. Did you find out what a "membership" movie is? I've never heard of that.
