Red Carpet Treatment -- Thurs., Jan. 31

Bob always has something up his sleeve. Hey, baby, whatcha' got cookin'?

VIP tickets to the Grand Opening of the new Starplex movie theater in Boerne. That's what!

All movies were free and all movie candy was $1.00 each, with money collected going to Daily Bread Ministries charity. Of course we had to support the cause. LOL.

Bob knows I love seeing movies so this was a great surprise. This theater has an "extended snack bar." Free samples were handed out in the lobby before the shows. Extended snack bar offerings include cheese or pepperoni pizza, fried mac 'n' cheese bites, mini corn dogs, soft pretzels, deep fried spicy green beans, ice cream, shakes and sundaes. Those are in addition to regular snack bar fare.

Here are the movies we could choose from.

The event was well attended and I got to have my picture taken with some "stars." (This is "Star"plex Cinemas after all.)

Brand spankin' new.
Captain Jack Sparrow (the sun coming in didn't help the photo).
Mike Meyers with the exact British accent. Uncanny.

Mike Meyers (I swear this was really him. He was very convincing.)
Captain Jack Sparrow walking the red carpet plank.
Good-sized crowd.
Great seats. (We were really early.)
The seats in these theaters are over-sized and very comfortable. I could fit my purse on the seat next to me so it didn't have to go on the floor or my lap. (Ladies you know what I'm talking about.)

There were good movie choices and we had to make up our minds which one to see. What we contemplated seeing: Chasing Mavericks, Flight, Argo (in IDX=incredible digital experience [a 60' screen]), or Hitchcock.

We decided on Hitchcock, about the life of Alfred Hitchcock and the tale of how Psycho was--or almost wasn't--made. Excellent movie! Anthony Hopkins played Alfred Hitchcock to a T, nailing his voice, accent, protruding lower lip and belly. Helen Mirren played Hitchcock's wife, a real fireball when she wanted to be, and a great director in her own right. The movie was funny, sarcastic and well-made. Scarlett Johansson played Vivien Leigh. We were entertained.

Speaking of Scarlett Johansson...I re-joined Netflix and on Wednesday night we watched We Bought a Zoo with Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson. The movie is based on the family who did this. Bob and I both enjoyed this movie. It's about a man who loses his wife to an unspecified disease, quits his job writing, sells his house and buys a small zoo. The family moves to the country (nine miles from a Walmart is defined as country in this movie). This is good family movie and deals a lot with relationships between people--more so than the relationships with the animals.

Kudos to Bob for a very fun date last night. After the movie, we went to Culver's for dinner. I had the deep fried Atlantic cod, mashed potatoes with gravy, and cole slaw. Bob ordered the special which was a grilled tuna sandwich and fries. He also helped me eat my dinner.

If you can stand it, the cloud show wasn't over when I met Bob at work. I HAD to take more photos. Here they are.

Wow--these clouds filled the sky on one side.
The cloud show looking across the street from Bob's work's parking lot.
Clouds from the theater parking lot.
Yesterday was a great day. Bob had a good day at work too. The stars must be aligned right. LOL.

And now for the weekend! Tomorrow and Sunday we will Volksmarch. Tomorrow we will walk in the De Zavala neighborhood near where Bob works. Tomorrow night our RV park is having movie night. Sunday is SuperBowl...not sure what our plans are for that yet. We will also walk on Sunday, maybe the downtown San Antonio historic churches walk.

Life is good.

Travel Bug blissing out.

  4. Gorgeous sky shots. Sounds like you had a lovely evening. We DVR'd "We Bought a Zoo" a few weeks ago and enjoyed watching it. A feel good family movie.
