Finishing Our Walk in Little Rock - Thurs., Oct. 30, 2014

To finish our Volksmarch we again parked at the Curran Hall parking lot (free parking) and continued where we left off at the Junction Bridge. Because Bob ran the Arkansas River Trail, he knew there was a sculpture garden we could see and still hook back up with the Volksmarch. (The Volksmarch did not go to the Vogel Schwartz Sculpture Garden.)

We crossed the bridge below to hook back up with the Volksmarch.

We again went off the walk route to see a fountain and the building behind it. We don't know what the building is used for.

Pretty building
Next the walk took us on a long straight-away to the Capitol.

Just a few more photos of this walk and we'll be done with it.

I found the mural below by the parking lot of the Purse Museum.  Isn't it adorable?

Somewhere right about here, we stopped at Community Bakery for a treat. I had a cherry cream cheese Danish and Bob had an apple turnover. We then continued on our regularly scheduled walk.
MacArthur Park - General MacArthur's birthplace
With that, we headed back to the 5th wheel, hitched up, went to the dump station to lighten the 5er's load, and headed out to Lake o' the Pines, Texas.

Once again we opted for a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Campground. Before making reservations I always check rvparkreviews.com to make sure the park won't snag us on the way in or out and that sites are level and big enough. We thought we'd stay at Caddo Lake State Park, but I read the reviews and we decided to go to Lake o' the Pines Brushy Creek Campground instead.

I can't say enough good things about that campground. It is easy access, wide access roads, large sites, and a number of pull-throughs. We loved our site. Even though we weren't lakefront, we could see it just fine from our site #E121. I would go back in a heartbeat. One word of caution, though...Bob asked the host at the campground gate if County Rd. 3001 hooked up with U.S. 59 south and if it did were there any problems with the route. She told us it was a great route and it was...until we got to U.S. 59 where there was a steep railroad grade. At that point we didn't want to turn around and go all the way back to the route we had used to go into the campground. Be forewarned, if you're a MH with a toad, that would not be the way to go.

We are back in Texas! Yee haw.

Enough already for today. Time for dinner and some good sleep.

Travel Bug out.

  1. Thanks for the info on Lake o' The Pines, looks like a great park. Much better choice than Caddo State Park. Those railroad grades sure can be a pain.

    1. Brushy Lake is a gorgeous campground.

We also checkout Buckhorn Creek Campground at Lake o' the Pines. OMG, some of the sites are narrow with a drop off along one edge. You'd have to aim your RV very carefully to avoid major damage if you should go over one of the edges. The drop is one to two feet.

However, if you can get one of the lakefront pull-throughs with a deck that would be awesome. I think we only saw two (maybe three) of those sites.
