A Christmas Cookie Exchange - Sunday, Dec. 14

Our friends, Susan and Darren, invited us to their home for a cookie exchange, lunch and football. Actually, I participated in the cookie exchange and Bob watched sports. They served us lunch before the party. We had Sloppy Joes made by their college senior, Travis, and Caesar salad.

In addition to baking three types of cookies, organizing the party and inviting us over early so I could bake my cookies in her oven, Susan made all kinds of appetizers for the cookie exchange party. We did not go hungry, that's for sure!

I was able to bake my Russian Teacake cookies in Susan's big oven. My other contribution was a batch of refrigerator cookies which I made in the 5th wheel. This was my second year to take part in the Cookie Exchange Party. It is so much fun to see all the different types of cookies and then share the bounty amongst our families.

After all the trays of cookies were placed on the dining table, each of us took our plates or trays and walked around the table, picking up one cookie at a time, continuing around the table until all the cookies were gone.

On the tray in the photo below, the chocolate with green frosting items are Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and peanut butter bells stuck together with chocolate frosting into a chocolate/ peanut butter tower. They were pretty good!

Our cookie party take-home tray. Wow.
Bob enjoyed the afternoon watching football with Darren and Travis. Thank you, Susan and Darren, for such a great party.

  1. What a great idea. Looks like lots of fun. I should not have read this before lunch. I'm afraid I'd eat all my cookies before there was a possibility of a take home tray. Congrats to Bob on the marathon. I sort of jog and have done a ten miler but can't even imagine running 26 miles. Running for more than an hour is over kill for me.

    1. Sherry,
Good job jogging ten miles. I can't imagine jogging that far or even walking 26 miles. However, I did hike 15 miles in one day this past summer.

The cookie exchange is so much fun. We weren't tempted by the cookies on that day because Susan and Darren fed us so much. But over the next two to three days, we were in cookie heaven. Now I need to exercise for sure!

  2. The cookies look wonderful! We also did a cookie exchange with our fellow volunteers the day before we headed home to Florida. We had plenty of goodies for our trip. We did manage to get a few home for the party awaiting us. Hope you have a great New Year!

  3. That is quite a plate of cookies. I enjoy these exchanges. I usually get cookies I would never make or ones I have never tasted.

    1. We had an assortment of old favorites and new, more complicated recipes. Most of them were quite good. If I didn't like a particular cookie, Bob did. If he didn't like one, I did. Worked out quite well in sharing the plateful.

  4. I've never done a cookie exchange party...mainly because I have absolutely no self control when it comes to cookies. I do like the idea of the participants walking around the table taking one cookie at a time until they are gone. Does that count the cookies that find their way into your mouth, instead of onto the plate?

    1. Only if you don't get caught. LOL. Actually, I don't really think anyone kept count..there was an abundance of cookies.
