Movie Review: Selma - Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015

Selma, Alabama is the place where Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., decided to make a stand in a peaceful fashion to try to pass the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The Civil Rights marches in Selma ended up being violent.

The movie takes an intelligent look at racism during the 1960s. David Oyelowo as Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., does an impeccable job portraying the dogged determination, doubts and guilt that Rev. King must have felt.

Watching this movie we are again reminded of man's inhumanity to man. During the movie, we cried, we clapped, and were in awe of the performances. This movie deserves a number of Oscars, one most assuredly for David Oyelowo.

We both highly recommend it. Five stars.

    1. It's amazing how much David Oyelowo nailed the performance of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. I felt the movie showed both sides of the story, and the white side is shameful.

  2. I'll have to watch this one. Civil rights history reminders are always welcome reminders that change doesn't happen unless we work at it.

    1. I had to do some serious self examination to think about if I would have gone to stand with Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. on his march. It's amazing how many people did just that. And they were from all walks of life. For me, it would have depended on if I had a way to get there. Then I'm pretty sure I would have gone.
