On the Metamorphosis Road - Tuesday, February 17, 2015

Fellow bloggers Hans and Lisa of Metamorphosis Road rolled into Travelers World RV Resort on Monday, February 16. Our plan was to walk part of the Mission Reach of the Riverwalk on Tuesday. My friend, Susan, would accompany us.

I'm going to back up a little to tell you about Monday. Monday afternoon, I headed to the movies to see "Jupiter Ascending" in 3D. I quite enjoyed it. The story begins with a young woman (Mila Kunis) who is bored with her life cleaning houses. She starts to observe strange occurrences while she's on her jobs. Creatures appear and disappear, time is distorted.

As she is on the examining table at a doctor's office, the doctor and nurses morph into the alien creatures and try to kill her. A handsome super-hero bounty hunter, Caine (Channing Tatum), swoops into the room, narrowly saving her from death. He tells her she is the soon-to-be Queen of the Universe, Jupiter Jones.

Meanwhile, on planets far, far away, evil siblings (two brothers and one sister) fight over the right to rule the Universe. We see humans from earth being used as laboratory animals whose body sera is being used to prolong life in the wealthy, to the detriment of the humans. One evil brother (Eddie Redmayne) wants to raid earth for its supply of humans.

The story is rather muddled, but the special effects, especially the 3D, are great. This movie won't be for everyone.

Monday night was soup potluck night in the RV Park. Hans, Lisa and I enjoyed sampling some of the many soups and stews on the buffet line. Lisa made a tasty Curried Vegetable Lentil Soup. She gave me the recipe so I can make it for Bob and I. I made an Easy Bean Stew which was missing some kick. A couple of days later when I ate the leftovers, I put in some Cholula Hot Sauce and that took the flavor up a few notches. Bob said it was so good with the Cholula Hot Sauce, he had to refrain from putting in all the hot sauce from the bottle. (That solidifies for me how bland the stew was without the hot sauce!)

On to Tuesday: Tuesday was on the chilly side, but the skies cleared toward the end of our walk. We started at Mission San Jose, walked to Mission San Juan, around the nature trail behind the mission, then back to Mission San Jose.

The Mission Reach of the River Walk is a big, wide paved path perfect for walking, biking, and jogging. Birds and turtles make this nature space their home. Eagle eyes Lisa, spotted this white ibis fishing in the river.

Mission San Juan's grounds show what life was like for the Native American converts to Catholicism. This mission was a trading post and had a farm a few miles to the south.

Behind Mission San Juan is a stretch of the San Antonio River the way it looked when the Indians lived there. It is much smaller and not developed in the way the San Antonio River is now.

After our exploration of the museum and the grounds, we retraced our steps to Mission San Jose. Susan had things to do at home, so she said her good-byes and headed out. Hans, Lisa and I watched the movie at the Visitor Center, then toured the grounds of Mission San Jose. This is by far my favorite mission in San Antonio. It is the most photogenic!

McDonald's has nothing on this mission! Arches galore here.
Incredibly pretty.
Interior arches too

We had a great 6.2 mile Volksmarch. Susan's Jawbone and Hans and Lisa's Fitbit recorded over 14,000 steps. Very enjoyable company to share the walk

  1. Isn't it wonderful how small changes to the second round of a dish can be so tasty and often so different? Personally, I thought your soup was quite tasty the first go round, the Cholula sounds like the perfect booster!

Great shots of our fun walk! I can't believe it is STILL as cold, or even colder, than it was on 2/17!

    1. The cold weather is getting old fast! We went to the rodeo Friday night to see Styx. Before the rodeo, we walked outside and I about froze! We got Island Noodles for dinner and took it inside to eat. Spent time shopping at the rodeo booths. We thoroughly enjoyed the rodeo semi-finals. But Styx was awesome!! I yelled, I sang along and yelled some more. My poor throat was sore the next day...I wore it out. AND there is another round of cold weather starting Wednesday, could have freezing temps again. Brr. I miss walking. It's way too cold.
