Wild and Wonderful Weekend, Part 1 - Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016

Friday night after work Bob and I went to dinner at Chaba Thai, then home to watch Hawaii 5-0 with a side of Shark Tank. So started our burn-the-candle-at-both-ends weekend.

Bob is in marathon training for the Honolulu Marathon in December. Saturday, he was up bright and early for a 20-mile training run. After the run, he took Saturday afternoon off and, instead of working, he stayed home to veg out to sports on TV.

Saturday, after I worked a 10-hour day, Bob and I had a short breather before Travelers World RV Resort had their Halloween party. The party started at 7 p.m. We brought our own drinks and snacks to share. Randi and Lydia were the instigators of the party and assembled a team of volunteers to decorate, set up and clean up. They also secured a DJ to spin dance tunes. We enjoyed seeing the costumes and dancing to Halloween rock music, especially Monster Mash.

At 9 pm we headed home because we had a full day planned Sunday; 5:30 am would come way too soon! With the alarm set, we hit the hay.

Sunday morning we drove an hour to Waring, Texas where we started our 10k Volksmarch through Camp Capers, an Episcopalian camp. The morning was hot and humid with not even a blade of grass stirring. At 8:10 am we were walking.

Around the block we went in Waring, then headed down a country road toward the camp. In order for us not to walk in the road, a path was mowed through the weeds and grasses.

Starting point: Waring Volunteer Fire Department

Only a small portion of walk was along the country road. Camp Capers Episcopalian Camp allowed us to walk on their property. Most of our six miles was through pastures, meadows and along the Guadalupe River. We love walks like this. Because Texas has had so much rain lately, the wildflowers are blooming again.

Even though we didn't have to, we climbed down all the stairs to the Guadalupe River. We're glad we did because it's beautiful!

The morning had been cloudy until the last 1-2 miles of our walk. As soon as the sun came out, it got hot fast. We hustled back to the finish point. I was completely sweaty. Because I knew what we were doing for the rest of the day, I had brought a complete change of clothing which I changed into as soon as we finished the walk.

Bob, on the other hand, has a membership to Gold's Gym, so we went to the closest location where he showered and changed clothes. Then we were off to Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

To be continued...
