Oregon Weather in Texas - Wed., Oct. 16

Talk about a difference a day makes! On Oct. 14, the high was 87; Oct. 15, the high was 86; today started out at 58 and it is now 60 degrees F. at 1:30 p.m. The difference? Oregon weather has stalled out over Texas. Yep, that's right folks, south Texas is gray, gloomy, rainy, and chilly. I feel right at home. LOL.

This morning, I had follow-up for my lab tests and results of my bone density test and mammogram. Lab tests showed my LDL (bad) cholesterol dropped from 141 to 115 and my cholesterol dropped from 207 to 184. Really good! All our healthy eating is paying off.

The bone density test is normal. The mammogram, however, apparently needs to be re-done on the left as there is a 1.8 cm "focal asymmetry;" right is normal. Does focal asymmetry mean they didn't focus correctly? Don't know. Guess I'll find out.

After the doctor's office visit, I met Bob for an Indian cuisine lunch which was yummy, but I would have liked mine a little spicier. After lunch, I shopped at Costco, then headed back to the 5er.

You would not have wanted to be my cats when I returned home. The African violet plant that Bob bought for me a few months ago, which was finally starting to grow well with numerous new leaves, had been chewed almost to the dirt. Three leaves remain. A heap of leaves and dirt were sitting on the counter. Grrrrrr! I'll see if I can save it. That's an awful lot of trauma for the plant. Anybody want a couple of cats? Just kidding.

In a few minutes I'm off to Planet Fitness to work out with weights. Walking is not enough...I'd like to develop additional muscle to burn fat more efficiently. I'm waiting for my lunch to digest a bit more before I go.

The new birdseed I purchased at Wild Birds Unlimited is doing the trick at keeping away the squirrels, just like the sales lady said it would. Since I have bought this different seed, the squirrels have not come near the feeder, but the doves and cardinals are loving it. Good purchase.

Tonight on TV I'll be watching Survivor and CSI. Survivor has been excellent so far this season.

Feels like I'm going to have to turn on the heat, it's rather chilly in here. Indoor thermometer says 64 degrees.

Happy Hump Day. Travel Bug out.

  1. Kitties can be such little stinkers.... Obviously they need a little time in the hamster wheel.

  2. Wow - it's beautiful and sunny here in Oregon. Guess Texas and Oregon decided to switch forecasts for a week. :)

    1. Must be. This is the kind of forecast I remember from Oregon. Apparently we're getting the tail end of a Pacific cyclone from a number of days ago. Add in moisture from the Gulf and you've got a dreary, rainy, stormy week. Time to go work out!

  3. Sue, can you tell me which birdseed keeps the squirrel away? Im sure you are happy that your good eating helped in giving you good numbers. I plan to have mine done when in FL this winter.

    1. Mona Liza,
The bag of seed is from Wild Birds Unlimited and is a store brand. The bag is maroon on top and tan in the middle, clear on the bottom so you can see the seeds. All the bag says is "Wild Birds Unlimited, Your Backyard Feeding Specialist, Wild Bird Seed, Graines Pour Oiseaux Sauvages." The bag does not say what kind of seeds they are. The seeds are tan color and smaller than sunflower seeds. On Wild Birds Unlimited web site, the seeds that look like what I have are safflower seeds. I bought the 5 lb. bag in the store so I could try it out. Now that I know it works, I may buy the 20 lb. bag next time.

    2. Thanks Sue, I will try to look it up. The squirrels are always having a feast with my seeds.

  4. Yikes....not sure I like the sound of that weather. We're working on the 'fit n healthy' thing as well and hubby has found some inserts in his shoes allowing for longer hikes without pain. Thanks again for your email. Hope the cold weather doesn't hang around long.

    1. Apparently this weather is very unusual for Texas in October.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of inserts does he wear? Sometimes I get pain across the ball of my foot and I'm not sure what to do for that.

    1. Cooler and rainier than Oregon right now too. Mom says it's in the 70s and sunny for the next week.

  6. Congratulations on those new numbers! It is great to have the numbers going the correct way. Adding the weights is an essential part of the exercise. Since we are always on the move, I travel with three different sets of weights, ankle weight, exercise ball, resistance bands, and mat. I have built three difference workouts for myself. Boy, did it help when we were doing all the rock scrambling out west. Keep up the good work!!

Gotta love those cats! I can't imagine the African Violet tasted that good...yuck! They sure are cute ones:)

  7. Bad kitties!! But they still look so cute.

I, too, work out at Planet Fitness. Can't beat the price. Sounds like everything is going well for you health wise.
