Big News - Monday, July 20, 2020

An interesting time for us! We returned home early from our last trip, but as luck would have it, one of the companies Bob does consulting work for is asking him to go to Gig Harbor, Washington. They are recruiting a new CFO and Bob will fill in while they do their search. Bob is a construction accountant.

We leave with our 5th wheel and cat (and my Ford Escape) on Sunday, July 26. Bob starts in their office on Monday, August 3. He has already worked a few days for them in their North Little Rock, Arkansas, office. They have offices in other cities as well.

We are so excited! Our stay will last almost two months in a much cooler part of the country. Thankfully, we were able to get into the private RV park in Gig Harbor on the Olympic Peninsula. Bob will be very close to where he'll be working and it's a lovely town. We almost bought a house there when we were living in the Tacoma area years ago.

My brother Frank and wife Gina will be at their property an hour and 20 minutes away. We'll have lots more pinochle playing in our future. We anticipate being home on September 30.

And Diane Howell and Rick Evans, our new friends that met us in Helena, Montana, live about 45 minutes away in Seabeck, Washington. She's a Volksmarcher and there are lots of walks available in the area. I'm hoping we can do a number of walks together when Bob's working!

Tuesday evening, Jim and Peri are coming over for dinner and games. I plan to make a salmon dinner with mashed yams, asparagus, and Peri is bringing a green salad. I expect we'll get in a few games of Sequence and Qwirkle.

Susan Medlin and I plan to do a Volksmarch in Kerrville, Texas, this Saturday. While we are walking, Darren and Bob will be riding bikes in San Antonio.

Mom is doing very well since her medications were stabilized a few months ago. The assisted living center has not had any cases of COVID-19 in staff or residents. Then again, they locked the facility down in the middle of March. It's a good thing when you look at the horrific numbers of COVID infections at nursing homes throughout the country. We feel very fortunate she is safe and feeling well!

You are now up-to-date on the latest happenings. Enjoy your week. Travel Bug out.

    1. Yeah, we're pretty excited. We're taking all vehicles, so Bob and I will be driving separately. That way, I can have my car in Gig Harbor. We looked at renting a car, but believe it or not, that would be more expensive that me driving up!

  2. We stayed at the Gig Harbor RV Resort for a couple of weeks in spring 2018 when we were doing the final loop trip to decide where we would be settling — WA, UT, or CO. Enjoyed our time in the small town and the places we visited or re-visited. Loved seeing Mt Rainier whenever we walked into town. Ultimately, though, WA was no longer for us.

    1. We lived in Tacoma (Milton) for 2-1/2 years and almost bought a house in Gig Harbor. Instead, Bob got transferred to Hawaii. LOL. I am so excited about being in the Northwest again.

We would never move back to the Tacoma area. It's much colder/ rainier, and foggy than Oregon. Isn't it interesting that Mt. Rainier and rainer are spelled the same? Being a word person I liked that.

Our current plan for a route to Gig Harbor is up through Amarillo, Walsenburg (Lathrop again if it's available), Laramie, Utah, Vancouver, WA, and then north.

      Enjoy your summer!

    1. Really, we can't wait to be somewhere cooler. We love Gig Harbor and almost bought a beautiful home there overlooking the sound. We had a home in Milton, WA, at the time. We decided we didn't like cold and rainy Washington. Bob was recruited for a job on Oahu, so we lived in Hawaii for five years after that.

    1. We lived in the Tacoma, WA, area for 2-1/2 years. Summer weekends were split between yard work one day and hiking on Mt. Rainier the next. Great scenery, lots of waterfalls, but in the end Washington state was colder, windier and rainer than Portland had been. Bob ended up accepting a job on Oahu! Much nicer weather there.

    1. I will contact you when we're there. I'm thinking since we'll be right in downtown Gig Harbor, I can walk the Gig Harbor walk every day if I want to! I need the walks for my Centurion book which is way behind! I'll walk as much as you want and I'll have my Escape there so I can drive if you want.
