Around the RV Park - Tues., Jan. 21

Our current site
Since we moved sites at the end of December, I haven't posted a photo of our current site. We had to move because Winter Texans/Snowbirds who return in flocks to this park year after year have their sites locked up long-term. Being the newbies, we get to move sites even though we live here year-round. In our 1-3/4 years here, this is the sixth site we've been in. It's been fun getting to know the park and our neighbors.

Our current site is between two park models which is fine with us. They shelter us a little from the winds. From our dining room window, where I sit to blog, there is a perfect view of the entrance to the park.

The park office is the beige building behind the brown MH.
Today, as I was typing my previous blog, about 15 RVs came in. It must be one of two rallies scheduled to be in the park. They have their own traffic director to move everyone to their sites quickly and efficiently. It was a well-orchestrated "dance" to make sure the motorhomes, 5th wheels and trailers didn't back out onto our busy street and cause traffic to snarl up.

Here's another motorhome (MH) checking in. It's amazing how sophisticated the drivers are now
Look at that concentration.
Isn't he handsome? (Sorry about the reflection.)
Here are a couple more photos of where we're currently living.

Bob's truck (the Blue Beast) fits in next to my Escape pod.

With all the Winter Texans in the park, there are many activities to choose from: happy hour on Friday night, steak night once a month, movie night once a month, Park Olympics, Saturday morning breakfast, dances, potlucks, cards, poker, field trips, games, jigsaw puzzles, and "horse racing."

I like to bird watch along the San Antonio River. One of the field trips I am helping set up is an afternoon trip to Random Beer Garden & Family Fun Center. The manager of our RV park went out to Random yesterday afternoon with his son, daughter-in-law and three grandkids to check it out. He loved it. There are 54 beers on tap. His favorite is a bourbon-flavored beer that is aged in whiskey barrels. He said his grandkids had a blast on the huge bouncy slide. Now we need to set a date and I need to do a write-up and flyer.

We love it here and so do a lot of other people. Working in the front office, it's very gratifying to hear the compliments about the park. People love the park's proximity to downtown San Antonio, the bike path outside our park entrance, being on the city bus route to downtown, how clean the park is, the activities, and how well maintained the park is. People extend their stays and end up returning many times (as evidenced by the Winter Texans who have been coming here for 9 to 29 years).

We love our home on wheels. In one month we will be taking it on the road. The countdown begins. Las Vegas or bust: February 22, 2014. On the way back to San Antonio in March, we will see the Dodgers in spring training, something Bob has drooled about for years.

Road trip!!

Here's how the kitties spent their afternoon...

Good thing we have two chairs!

  1. Yup, your park was very neat and clean and well kept.... and that one maintenance guy was to the site in ten minutes to fix something, I forget what it was.... but nice guy! We enjoyed walking around the loops and seeing all the different rigs. It's a great location for all the fun stuff to see and do, plus that mexican restaurant across the street I bet gets a LOT of business from the park!
