Off to Grapevine, Texas - Sun., May 4

Leisurely morning, up about 9 a.m. We pulled out of San Antonio at 12:15 for a day-long drive to Grapevine, Texas, where we will spend the night.

Bob is taking a construction accounting exam for his CCIFP (Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional) certification at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5. I'm along for the ride. New territory...oh boy!

Our drive along I-35 was uneventful except for some big construction along the way. (They're building a whole new freeway.) Sections of I-35 are new (and nice!). Other sections are narrow two lanes with concrete barriers, i.e., no shoulders at all. Thankfully we were in the Escape pod and not towing the 5th wheel.

As we traveled north, green grasses waved in the breeze. The temperature hovered around 90 degrees, but it was dry and very pleasant.

Upon arrival in Grapevine, Texas, we drove to the Gaylord Texan Convention Center where Bob will be taking the test Monday. Across the highway from the convention center is Great Wolf Lodge. In case you've never heard of Great Wolf Lodge, it's a family-oriented hotel with a huge water park. There are a few of them scattered around the U.S. We've also seen one south of Olympia, Washington.

Grapevine, Texas has a worthy historic district. More on that tomorrow. (Hint: I'll be hanging out there while Bob takes his test. I may check out a nature area south of us too.)

As we were driving to historic downtown Grapevine, we spotted a Comfort Inn. That's where we decided to spend the night.

For dinner we scoped out historic downtown Grapevine and decided on Farina's Winery & Cafe. Bob ordered Chicken Marsala with dinner salad and spaghetti. I had Marinated Flank Steak with dinner salad, garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus.

Then it was back to the motel to watch Amazing Race and settle in for the night. Bob studied for his test. I finished Divergent and started Insurgent, both part of the trilogy by Veronica Roth.

Today is done. Travel Bug out.

  1. Grapevine is a nice area. We ate at the Uncle Buck's at Bass Pro. The food was good and the restaurant itself is very pretty.

    1. Hi Patty,
I read your comment just before we headed to lunch. Guess where we went? Uncle Buck's, of course. It was awesome. Thanks for the recommendation.

  2. We love Grapevine. We were there couple of years ago and stayed at the The Vineyards RV Campground! It's one of our favorite RV parks!

    Enjoy!

  3. Hope Bob aces the test. There is a Great Wolf Lodge in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin too. We've never stayed there, but heard it is a nice place.
