Two Susans to Go, or as the other Susan says, "Wild West Wanderings" - first day.
I worked until 5:40 p.m., skedaddled home, Bob was already there to help me put my stuff in the car. We drove to Susan's house and arrived at 6:30 p.m. By 6:40 we were on our way to Ft. Stockton. Meanwhile, Susan M. had been running errands. She picked up our TripTik from AAA and also maps and tourbooks. We are set for our 5,000 mile drive.
Bob took the Escape pod out to Random Event Center where he will be helping out tonight. He will take the car back to the RV park. Thank you, Bob.
At 12:00 a.m., we arrived at our motel in Ft. Stockton. For the last 1-1/2 hours we had the most spectacular lightning show I've ever seen. Lightning bolts - thin, horizontal, thick, vertical - and flashes of light like daylight lit up the night. As soon as we turned off the freeway in Ft. Stockton the rain pounded down in torrents. Waterfalls were flowing off the roof of the motel. Thunder boomed overhead. Thankfully, they had a covered check-in area.
After check in, we had to drive to the door near our hallway. Rain was pummeling the car.
We couldn't get the key out of the ignition. By the time we figured that out, the rain had almost stopped. We were able to take in our belongings without turning into bedraggled, sopping wet travelers.
Time for sleep, we're up at 5:45 a.m.
Good night. Tomorrow, Carefree, AZ.
Travel Bug out.
