RV Shopping Find of the Day...at Costco! - Wed., Sep. 3

Our old kitchen storage containers have lids that are cracking and the containers themselves are stained. We've had them about ten years. They nest inside each other which is great when you have limited storage space in your RV.

Today when I was in Costco and saw this set of 15 containers with lids for $29.99, I bought them. Good price. They are freezer, microwave and top-rack dishwasher safe AND they're made in the U.S.A.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so here is my photo essay on our new stacking storage containers. [Disclaimer: I don't work for Costco or Rubbermaid.]

The box pretty much shows it all

What's included: 15 containers, 15 lids
All washed and accounted for. Salad already made.

In the cupboard with old containers behind (blue lids),
new containers are clear plastic with red lids, and
there are a couple of old Tupperware pieces in there too.
I really like that there are four small 1/2 cup (118 ml) containers to take salad dressing or nuts in my lunches. The medium containers will also be great for taking lunches and snacks on hikes.

If you're trying to fit stuff into small spaces, these work well in the kitchen!

P.S. Regular unleaded gas at Costco today is $3.05 9/10. Merikay wins for best gas price reported today...$2.99/gallon in Roanoke, VA. Thanks for letting us know Merikay.

  1. My daughter-in-law introduced us to these containers and we love them. We have ones with red lids for in the house, and ones with blue lids for the rig. I do caution about using them in the microwave as the bottoms do crack. I usually transfer the contents to a glass dish for reheating. But for stacking things in the refrigerator and freezer - they are great. We store our ice cubes in the large one as it is less awkward that dealing with ice cube trays.

    1. Thanks for the heads-up about using them in the microwave. And I like your idea of using them to store ice cubes. In fact, I'm thinking of making big ice cubes in the small containers! Haven't seen the ones with blue lids. Are they different sizes?

    2. (Sorry, just saw this....) Same sizes, just different lids. That way I know which ones belong in the rig and which ones belong in the house.

  2. Those containers look really nice! Looks like they could be used as measuring cups, too! I love Costco and Sam's Club! :)

    1. They probably could be used as measuring cups! Also can use the small ones to make big ice cubes!

  3. WOW both of those gas prices are amazing. Here in Utah gas is $3.699. I'm having East Coast gas envy. Love your Rubbermaid set. We have the same cracking and lids problem. I'm going to keep my eye out for that set and toss all our old ones. Although I never microwave anything in plastic of any kind no matter what the marketing people put on the label.

    1. One of my other commenters has this set and gave me a heads up that the plastic will crack if microwaved a lot. You are smart to put your food in a different container. I will have to start doing that. Training Bob to do that is another matter.

  4. Very nice! I've got a similar set from BJs (our warehouse club). I love the stacking connecting lids they have to keep them all tidy :)

    1. Hi Faye,
Yep, time to plan to stow stuff. We leave in a little under two weeks for Wisconsin/Michigan. People are heading south and we'll be heading north for fall colors and cool hiking temps. Plan to be back in San Antonio by Nov. 1 or 2.

I'm sure we'll get together when you're in Texas. See you then!

  6. We like Costco and have some of those containers, the premiere ones do resist stains.

  7. We have those storage containers and love them. We not only use them for left overs but also store dry goods in them since they stack and store better than original packaging.
