We do not plan to stop traveling, but we do want a home base for our travels. Traveler's World RV Resort in San Antonio, where we have lived for five years in our 5th wheel, is the place we want to call home. The people are wonderful. During the busy season (fall & winter) there are many activities from which to choose. Plus, the temperature is pretty mild during the winter.
At Tim's Tiny Homes we looked at park models (under 400 sq ft) and manufactured homes. This is the third place we've been and found a manufactured home we really like. The home is two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. It is made by Athens Park Homes.
March 30-31 we plan to drive to Athens, Texas, to visit the manufacturing facility and see how Athens manufactured homes are built. While we're in the area, we also plan to look at Diamond and Platinum manufactured home builders.
Careful consideration is going into our decision and we think it's the right one for us. Since we're both working, we won't be traveling full time for a few years. This move will allow us to bring the contents of our small storage unit here from Oregon.
Our jobs allow some long vacations, so we will still be traveling. 2017 travels will take us to Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida in May. Then we will go on a six-week road trip to Washington, D.C. later this summer.
I am changing from full-time permanent to full-time seasonal and will work from November through May. If needed, I can be on call during the slow season.
Because of this change, I will be traveling quite a bit this summer with my friend, Susan, and her husband, Darren.
- In June, we will be on a three-week driving trip to Billings, Montana for the Volksmarch convention. We will stop along the route to do Volksmarches at state capitals, national parks, national monuments and other interesting places. We hope to do two 10k walks per day (feet, hips, and knees permitting).
- In August, we will go on a five-day driving trip to Grand Island, Nebraska for a Volksmarching weekend during the total eclipse of the sun.
Then later in August, I will fly to Portland, Oregon to visit my family for two weeks. Bob is working full time. I invited him to go with us, but he can't get that much time off work. Bob and I will, however, have two weeks together on our Florida trip and six weeks on our Washington, D.C. trip and I'll be home from mid-June until mid-August.
That's the latest news from Texas. Have a great Wednesday, y'all. TravelBug out.
Well, well! We have to admire you guys for making new ideas become real for you. You will never be among those who, at the end of days, have regrets for the ideas and dreams that went unfulfilled. We're proud for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mike. We're making inroads on the bucket list slowly but surely.
DeleteNow that is a lot of news and changes in your life. Sounds very exciting!
ReplyDeleteSherry, We think the changes are good for us at this point in our lives. I'd like to get Bob out traveling more, though.
DeleteSounds like a great plan! Will you be able to store the 5th wheel at Travelers World?
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa and Hans, We don't know yet if there will be a storage space for the 5th wheel at Travelers World. It depends on how much room is left when the snowbirds drive home and their RVs are put back in storage for the summer.
DeleteAh, fingers crossed for you! If not, hopefully there is reasonably priced storage near by!
DeleteCongrats! I didn't realize that Travelers World had manufactured home and park model spaces or onsite RV storage. Hopefully, if you are working less, I'll get to see you once in a while.
DeleteI love your plan! Anxiously awaiting your trip to DC. Will be making lots of notes on all your findings.
ReplyDeleteAre you planning a trip to DC in the near future? I think we're going to stay at Cherry Hill Park; however, we have sticker shock on the monthly price. There don't seem to be many other options close to DC for RV resorts. We saw a federal campground that's boondocking only and a state (?) park with only water. There's a KOA somewhere in the vicinity, but it's almost as much as Cherry Hill. Sheesh.
DeleteWe stayed at Cherry Hill Park when we visited. You can catch the bus there to the subway and get all over DC from the station. It was a nice park, good people there.
DeleteOHhh I hope you get a really nice spot to put the tiny house! Loved that little loop road along the edge by that natural area....
ReplyDeleteSounds like a plan.
ReplyDeleteThere are some regional RV parks near DC We stayed at Bull Run a couple of years ago - $42 a day with full 3 way hookups. Very nice park with great shade - out near Manassas and the Udvar Hazy Air Museum. You could always split your time. There are other regional parks in the area. It was amazing that it was such a great wooded park in the middle of the DC metropolis.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Katy. That's good information. We'll check into it. We haven't spent much time on the East Coast so any help is appreciated.
DeleteThat sounds very interesting, living in Tims Tiny Homes. It is also great that you do like your job and you have some flexible time to go traveling at the same time. Unfortunately Cherry Hill is the only game in town close enough to DC. Hope we stumble on each other somewhere.
