Excitement reigned supreme as we pulled out of Traveler's World RV Resort at 7 am on Monday, May 30, to start our journey north to Alaska. Today's destination is Lubbock RV Park 395 miles away. The weather today is perfect for a long drive.
As is the case when we head out on a long vacation, we had a great sense of anticipation. What would we see along the way? What will we learn about our great country and Canada? Will our 5th wheel make it that far? Have we done our homework and made all the arrangements we need to? Will there be a problem crossing the border due to COVID-19? Who will we see along the way? Will our home be okay while we're gone? The answers remain to be seen.
Our route today is I-10 west to Junction, Texas, and then we'll head north on U.S. 83 to Ballinger, Texas. At Ballinger, we will head northwest on State Routes 158, 153, and 70 to Sweetwater, Texas. From Sweetwater, we will take I-20 west to U.S. 84 north. When we get to Lubbock, we will take I-27 north to Lubbock RV Park.
We have stayed at Lubbock RV Park in the past and think it's a great park. Our site this time was huge and in the trees. (Last time, we were in full sun! Aack!)
Here are some photos of Lubbock RV Park.

The last time we were in Lubbock, we said when we come back we need to visit the American Windmill Museum. Tomorrow, we will do just that.
In addition, across I-27 from Lubbock RV Park, is the Silent Wings Museum about the history of glider operations in World War II. You can view the planes flown, the weapons fired, and the missions carried out to liberate Europe. If we have time, we will make a trip to see this museum as well.
After a long driving day, Bob needed to get out and exercise, so he took his bike on a long ride this evening.
That's it for today.
I like visiting Lubbock cuz there is so much to see/visit. We did the Windmill Museum and the Silent Wings Museum as well. I didn't want to go to the Silent Wings one at all, and we got there with about an hour to take it all in. We NEED to go back. They almost had to kick us out it was so informative, AND, they were adding to it back then. Gosh, how time flies. Can't wait to read what you did next. We are usually leaving from the McKinney area so I believe we take Hwy 380 West.
ReplyDeleteAnticipation is always exciting as are your posts!
DJ, Thanks for the comment. Lubbock really does have a lot to do. Bob loves riding his bike around there, especially the Yellow House Canyon and River area that has the old amusement park, we think it's called Joyland.
DeleteOf course, the prairie dogs are always cute and fun to watch, even though ranchers consider them pests.
The next time we go through Lubbock, the Silent Wings Museum is on our bucket list as a must do.

Excited to follow along from the beginning! We’ve stayed at a couple of RV parks in Lubbock, but not this one. Glad to have a new one to try, and have added the Silent Wings museum to our “To Do” list!
ReplyDeleteHi Suzanne! It's nice to see you here. We have stayed at another RV park in Lubbock, but we like this one better. This was our second time here. We are looking forward to finally going to the Silver Wings Museum the next time we are in Lubbock.
