Muskoseepi Park and Jeffrey's Café Company in Grande Prairie, Alberta - Monday, July 11, 2022

Here's an update on our current whereabouts. Our drive to Grande Prairie went smoothly except for a very bumpy road and the ceaseless wind. Luckily, the wind wasn't as bad as one other day on this trip in Judith Gap, Montana. We had to stop a few places along that route. Each stop was 15-30 minutes long because the wind was pretty severe. (Not bad enough to tip over an 18-wheeler, mind you, but concerning to us anyway!)

The Country Roads Campground in Grande Prairie is cute and functional. The sites in our section are huge with wide roadways. They planted pine-and-birch-tree windbreaks throughout the campground. In addition, the main park road is lined with medium-sized rocks, and trolls of differing personalities are sitting on or next to the rocks. The office has ice cream and homemade pies. (We haven't had any YET.)

Flower towers line the
entrance road.

There are all kinds of fun touches
around the park.

Our huge site, #97.

Sunday afternoon, Bob rode his bike 13 miles in Muskoseepi Park in downtown Grande Prairie. This morning, we did a 5k Volksmarch in Muskoseepi Park. The wind blasted us relentlessly when we were on the upper trail at the park. When we walked on the lower trail along Bear Creek and the reservoir, it was quite warm.

Grande Prairie College.

Spirit Sisters Rock.

Art in the park.

One of the multiple bridges in the park.

This is by the pavilion at the
start of the walk.

The dam on Bear Creek.

This museum and Heritage Village
is in the park. We did not go in.

Active beavers live in the area!

These alder trees have been gnawed
recently!

Excellent information about beavers!

We didn't see any bears or moose.

Bear Creek.

The Cow-parsnip (Heracleum
maximum) was at least 7 ft. high!

Murals on the back side of the bandstand.

Another mural on the back side of
the bandstand.

As we headed back to the parking lot, a freight train approached us on the railroad trestle. Perfect timing!

It looked like a grain train.

After the walk, we went to Centre 2000 for Alberta Tourism and the Heritage Museum. Unfortunately, the museum is not open on Monday, so we will go on Tuesday when it's supposed to rain all day. Tuesday evening (6:30-8:30), the Rotary Club has a free, two-hour school bus tour of Grande Prairie. We plan to go on that.

Centre 2000 has a magnificent sundial! Check this out.

If I worked here, I would love
driving this around!

Bob has new honey. LOL.

My new Canadian friend.

The hoop dancer below was just finishing his dance when we walked out of the Visitor Centre. By the time I got my camera out and close enough to take a photo, he was finished. Bummer.

One of the staff at Alberta Tourism gave us three recommendations for lunch: Maddhatters, Lion's Den Pub, and Jeffrey's Café Company. They said Jeffrey's does most of the catering of events in Grande Prairie. That sold us. It was amazing. We wanted almost everything on the menu. Bob said we should move there and then I could work in the restaurant and get free food. Ha ha!

We got there at 3 pm, just in time for Happy Hour. Today's Special was Turkey Sliders with melted Brie and peach jam. OMG, so good. I also ordered the Soup of the Day (Northern Butternut Squash) which came with a Cheese Chive Biscuit, and a "small" Garden Salad. Bob had a Curry, Chicken, Apple Fold (the "fold" is Naan bread) served with potato chips. His "fold" was so big that he immediately put half of it in a to-go box!

We read "travel porn" while
we ate!

After lunch, we headed back to the 5th wheel. Dinner was Crock Pot Chicken complete with Yukon Gold potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, and celery.

It is raining tonight and this is supposed to continue all day Tuesday and Tuesday night. Ugh. It's also a chilly 55 degrees F.

Have a great day! TravelBug out.

    1. Jocelyne and Don, We definitely love Grande Prairie. We'll find out a lot more about it this evening on our two-hour tour.

This afternoon, we are going to the museum in Centre 2000. We're also going to Costco and Walmart to "stock up" for our journey through B.C. and the Yukon.

      Have a great summer.
