More sports! - Friday, Jan. 16, 2015

Thursday and Friday, I worked. Friday night we had tickets for the Blazers/Spurs game at 7:30. After work, we had a quick snack at Jack in the Box, then headed for the AT&T Center. Our seats were high up in a corner of the arena where it was quite warm. I felt chilled. Uh oh. Might be coming down with something.

The game was great if you're a Spurs fan because the Blazers sucked. Since we lived in the Portland, Oregon area for over 30 years, we really wanted to see the Blazers win. I cheered for both sides. Bob didn't cheer at all. I guess I made up for both of us. Oh, well, you can't win 'em all.

After the game, we headed to IHOP for post-game eats. Bob had their new turkey cranberry melt sandwich which was very good. I had a cinnamon-apple crepe with ice cream. Mmmm! We shared with each other. IHOP was "the" place to go after the Spurs game. At least five other groups had on Spurs shirts...the people across from us had come from the game as well.

Go Blazers! - Fri., Jan.17

Yay! Portland Trailblazers win it. What an exciting game! Bob took Randall and I to see the game at the AT&T Center Arena in San Antonio tonight. If this is any indication what a playoff game will be like between these two teams, we're going to be hoarse during the finals!

Work, work, work this week and again next week. I work three days at the RV park office this week, plus I worked one day as a doctor's office receptionist and one day at an insurance agent's office. Next week, will be three days at the RV park office, two days at the insurance office and one day in the doctor's office. Whew. I get tired just thinking about it.

Never did find my hearing aid. Looks like I'll have to order a replacement so I can hear again.

I went to see Her at the Regal Quarry Cinemas. Not my cup of tea. I was bored, thought it was weird, it was slow with soft music, and I fell asleep. Didn't miss much as far as I could tell. Through the operating system interface verbal sex/masturbation scene, the screen went black for about a minute. Definitely not a movie I would recommend and I usually like futuristic movies. Save your money and go see The Hunger Games or The Hobbitt: The Desolation of Smaug or The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Anything but this drivel. One star out of five. As Bob would say, "Tell us what you really think!"

Today at the RV park office was "one of those days." Every other interaction seemed to be a problem. At one point, I was helping customers with check-in, more customers were waiting to check in and others were waiting to buy items from our store. I watch as a pickup towing a trailer pulls up in front of our building and blocks all the parking sites. A man walks in and stops. Loudly, so everyone can hear, he announces, "You need to do something about the dog poop in the park! Someone was walking their dog and it took a dump in my site."  I started to empathize with him that people need to pick up after their dogs. He responded, "Oh, they did pick up after their dog, but it left a terrible smell. I paid for that site and I should not have to smell dog poop." Then he turned around and stomped out the door. Everyone in the place looked at each other like, "What was that?!" I think someone got up on the wrong side of the bed!

It was that kind of day.

Sunday we will go to our friend Susan's house to watch the football games in the afternoon/evening. I plan to make guacamole and bring chips and a veggie tray.

Enjoy your weekend. Live long and prosper.

In Enemy Territory -- Fri., Mar. 8

Intrepidly wearing our red colors, we infiltrated behind enemy lines. The security detail yelled to the crowd that Portland Trailblazer fans would have a hard time getting into the arena (AT&T Center). Let the trash talking begin.

With that welcome, we made our way to our seats one row from the top of the arena. We were surrounded by San Antonio Spurs fans.  (Thank you to Stephanie at Bob's work who won season Spurs tickets. She has been kind enough to share them with other people in the office.)

Our minds ever hopeful, we thought positive thoughts and hoped for the best. If you've been following the Portland Trailblazers this season, that's all you can do.

However, the Blazers turned it on tonight. We were surprised, then delighted, then amazed. The Trailblazers kept up with the Spurs and then blasted them to smithereens. Thank you to the skitterbug, #30, Damian Lillard, who scored **35** points, and had nine assists, three rebounds and two steals. He was everywhere. Wow. Final score 136-106. It was the spurs second worst home loss EVER.

Damian wasn't the only Blazer to put up big numbers. LaMarcus Aldridge had 26 points, J.J. Hickson had 23 points and 11 rebounds, and Eric Maynor had 20 points off the bench. Whee! What a fun game to watch.

Since we've been in San Antonio, we've had the opportunity to go to a few Spurs games. The arena tonight was the quietest we've ever heard it. Spurs fans know how to bring the house down...when they're winning, that is.

As Bob said, normally when we go to the Spurs games we cheer for the Spurs. But having lived in Oregon for over 35 years, the Blazers are still "our" team. So on the one night the Blazers play in the AT&T Center, if we happen to be at the game, we cheer for the Blazers behind enemy lines.

Tonight was Military Appreciation Night at the game. Many tributes were made to those in the Armed Forces who serve our country. Wounded Warriors had courtside seats for the game.

We had a super fun evening.

On a different note, Bob has his second upper respiratory infection (URI) in about a month. He hadn't finished coughing from his first one, when he came down with this one earlier in the week. Bummer for him. I felt bad for him tonight with his runny nose and coughing. So far I have not caught it.

I'll end this blog with a photo of Bowie sleeping peacefully in "his" box.

Trailblazers & Texas Twang

This morning we washed our 5er, Bob's truck and my car while it was early and cool. The amount of bugs our vehicles collect is staggering.

Once our chores were complete and the 5er hooked up to the truck, we left rustic River Oaks RV Riverside Resort and headed to a real RV resort: Buckhorn Lake Resort in Kerrville, Texas. The drive took us about 1-1/2 hours.

We checked in about 12:15 p.m., picked up our forwarded mail, and settled into our site. Laundry was at the top of my list for this afternoon and we finished that by 4:00 p.m.

Tonight, we went to the Portland Trailblazers vs San Antonio Spurs basketball game at the AT&T Center in San Antonio. More on that later.

Much more interesting is Texas twang or "How do you say that?" When we checked into the RV resort, I mentioned that we had been to Gruene (which I pronounced grew-knee). The clerks had no clue what I was talking about. So I explained where the town was located and asked them how to pronounce it. They told me it's pronounced "green."

Also included in my Texas twang lesson were the following:
Bexar is pronounced "bear."
Boerne is pronounced "bernie."
Leakey is pronounced "lake-y."
Lots more to learn about speaking "Texan."

We are long-time Trailblazer basketball fans, having lived in Oregon for over 30 years. We were looking forward to being at the game tonight for the game with the San Antonio Spurs. Bob wore his Trailblazer T-shirt. Unfortunately the Blazers did not show up for the game mentally. It was ugly. The Blazers looked like they didn't know what they were supposed to be doing (things like scoring, defending, making free throws, blocking shots). I told Bob the game was so bad he was going to have to turn his Trailblazer shirt inside out. The game went to the Spurs who had a 35-point victory.

Tomorrow is another day. The RV Rally starts and lasts until Sunday, April 29. Time for this night owl to fly off to bed.
