Temp Work at a Doctor's Office Today - Tues., Jan. 7

Today, I had to be at work at the doctor's office by 8:00 a.m. This is a continuing Snelling temp assignment for two to six hours, one day per week.

When I went outside, the water that had run at a slow stream overnight in the 20 degree temperature was a big icicle that went from the spigot to the ground. Good thing we brought in the hose and filter!

As I got in the car I realized there was a layer of frost covering the windshield, so out came the ice scraper to make my windshield clean enough to drive. The drive to work was cold but uneventful. The roads were dry.

At the doctor's office, my job is to open the office, set up the sign-in sheet, greet patients, have them fill out patient paperwork, and show them into their exam rooms. I was a little dismayed when I arrived to find two patients were scheduled for 8:30 a.m., one for 8:45 a.m. and one for 9:00 a.m. Only one doctor comes in.

All the patients were early. The doctor was 15 minutes late. Sheesh. I had the first two patients in exam rooms within five minutes of the doctor's arrival. The other two people had to wait in the lobby. And wait. And wait. I know how much I hate that when I go to the doctor's office.

Long story short, all the patient's eventually were seen, but two of them had a long wait until it was their turn. They're all being examined for disability claims and some of them are really hurting. I felt bad for them.

By 11:45 a.m. everyone was gone and the office was clean. The doctor complimented me and said the office looked cleaner than he had seen it in a long time. He's a very nice doctor, probably in his mid-70s.

After work, I went home, had lunch, then took my Escape pod in for an oil change. I also wanted them to look at two other things (1) the map light doesn't work the way it should, and (2) my engine has a high idle even when the car is stopped at a red light. The oil change was done in 45 minutes. They will need to order a new map light and install it, plus they only have one gas engine diagnostician so I will have to take the car back next week to have those items taken care of.

I got a couple of things checked off my to-do list from yesterday. In the evening, I watched "The Bachelor."

Bob brought in our fresh water hose. We put it in the tub with warm water and bleach. I hate to tell you, but a lot of algae came out. It was pretty gross. But it's clean now! Thank you, Bob, for taking care of that. All we can figure is that during our 90-100 degree days, algae grew in the hose. We weren't using it every day because of the low flow. Bob had been filling our fresh water tank and we left the hose sitting with no flow going through it during the hot days. Now we know. We must have water flowing through the hose in hot weather AND we must clean the fresh water hose more often when we don't use it all the time.

So ended Tuesday. Travel Bug out.

  1. Yup.. .each time we use our hose, we let all the water run out as we coil it up, and then screw the ends together to keep any critters from crawling inside!

Also our big water filter we have in our fill station bay, we take the filter out to dry in between tank fills, because otherwise its sitting in stagnant water inside the plastic filter housing with no water moving through it. That can grow junk fast too.

We mostly boondock or camp without hookups, so we don't use a hose hookup too often, instead we just fill our tank and use water that way.
