Saturday morning we're taking the 5er for a spin...all the way to Las Vegas (but not in one day). Our countdown is down to one day. Hitch itch is strong with us and we can't wait to have the wheels rolling again. Two weeks on the road! Yippee.
We'll be going to City of Rocks State Park in New Mexico to learn about the big volcano that caused their rock formations. A visitor center and a walk through the rocks is in our future.
Then we're off to Lake Pleasant Regional Park to camp near Carefree, Arizona, and we'll visit with Bob's Aunt and Uncle. We may have time for some Volksmarches in the Phoenix area too.
From Carefree, our next stop is Lake Mead to camp for five nights. We'll be going to Henderson and Las Vegas, NV from our campsite every day. Bob's family lives in Henderson and I have two cousins coming - one from Sacramento, CA and one from Tennessee - with whom I'll have a mini family reunion. I see more Volksmarches in our future.
On the return trip, we will see the Dodgers vs. the Mariners in a spring training game, and wander the Camelback Ranch learning about training and shopping at the booths. This has been on Bob's bucket list for quite some time.
Next stop will be Carlsbad Caverns and we may even throw in a trip to Roswell. I've always wanted to go to the kitschy UFO Museum. And from there, we'll be headed back to our site in San Antonio.
It's getting late, so I'll fall asleep thinking about all the fun things we'll do on our vacation.

Sounds like a fun trip, Carlsbed Caverns is one of the nicest caverns we've been, you should go to Sonora Caverns near San Antonio it's another beautiful caverns we've been too twice. Spent a day at City of Rocks, nothing around there for 15-20 miles so trips to town are quite long. Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteHey Faye,
DeleteI've been to Carlsbad Caverns but it's been years. The thing I remember most: it was end-of-school-year field trip day and the caverns were reverberating with the voices of multitudes of young children. Bob has never been, so we're going to try for a longer tour with lots of formations.
We will not be staying at City of Rocks, just visiting for an afternoon. We plan to camp in Deming, NM.
Wow, you have a lot planned for two weeks. You'll need a vacation from your vacation when you get back :) Have a great time!!!
ReplyDeleteA vacation from our vacation...yeah, that sounds like us! LOL.
DeleteWhat a wonderful adventure you have planned. We have been to just about all the areas you will hit.
ReplyDeleteWhen you are in Carlsbad, don't miss the Desert Zoo & Gardens State Park. It is excellent. The Caverns are the best we have ever seen.
We went to the Cleveland Indians spring training two years ago. It was so much fun. You will enjoy seeing the players up close and personal. Enjoy your trip!
The Desert Zoo and Gardens sounds right up our alley. Thanks for the tip!
DeleteAnd definitely looking forward to spring training.
Safe and fun travels.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Erin. If you are still in Port Aransas when we return in March, lets on a get together in your area. I bet the birds will be migrating by then. There's more Volksmarches to do there too.
DeleteHow exciting to be getting out on the road for a bit! Sounds like you've got lots of fun plans ahead!
ReplyDeleteYeah, we're more than a little excited. Tomorrow morning. Wahoo!
DeleteYou will be near my hometown of Deming at City of Rocks- enjoy!
ReplyDeleteDo you have any tips for good restaurants or sights we shouldn't miss with an afternoon and morning to explore?
DeleteHave a memorable, safe, and renewing trip - see you when you get back!
ReplyDeleteWe plan to make it all three.
DeleteHave a wonderful time! We're looking forward to reading about your travels!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see you again! Thanks for all your blogs, good to hear all the good times you've been having.
DeleteSounds like a great trip. Carlsbad is STILL on my list.
ReplyDeleteSo many places to see!! I've got a long list.
DeleteOh wow! Sounds like quite the adventure!
ReplyDeleteAdventure is my middle name!
DeleteWe're within walking distance from the rv park on Lake Mead. We'll plan on getting together with you sometime during your stay!
ReplyDeleteLet's have some fun! Looking forward to meeting you in person.
DeleteHow about Thursday, Feb. 27? We are free all day. Site 837.
DeleteLooking forward to your travels! Especially the City of Rocks. We went there in the early 60's when my dad was with the U.S. Forest Service stationed in Silver City.
ReplyDeleteMake sure to keep some money aside while you're in Vegas. You'll need to have it for fuel to get you home... :c)
