More New Orleans Exploration - Sun., May 18

Our choice of motel in Metairie, Louisiana was a good one. Hop on I-10 east to US 90 and it was about ten minutes into the French Quarter and Garden District in New Orleans. Breakfast is what we wanted. As we drove on St. Charles in the Garden District, we saw the Trolley Stop Cafe. Lots of cars and people, to us, indicated a good restaurant.

Breakfast stop on Sunday morning.
We found a nearby parking spot and walked over. 10-20 minute wait. Okay, not too bad for a good restaurant. We put our names on the list and ten minutes later we were seated and had our drinks. Service was excellent, food was yummy and our tummies were happy. Trolley Stop Cafe is highly recommended by our group.

From Trolley Stop Cafe, we drove to the French Quarter and found a free parking spot on our first try. Laura and Louise wanted to shop; Bob and I wanted to explore. We agreed to meet at the car in 1-1/2 hours.

Bob and I criss-crossed the French Quarter by foot, checking out shops and reading history markers.

"Fall in or crawl in."
"Balcony pass - 1/2 hour $30."

One place we had never seen was New Orleans Musical Legends Park which has a Cafe Beignet in the courtyard.

From the French Quarter, we made our way to Jackson Square and the banks of the mighty Mississippi River.

The Cabildo is now a museum.

After Jackson Square, we headed toward the car. We found a couple of cool shops: Voodoo Blue's and Razzle Dazzle.

I love kitty masks!
One street performer caught my eye. This guy was as still as a statue. His little stuffed dog had a cigar in its mouth.

That was our morning in New Orleans. We headed back to La Quinta to get ready for the birthday party.

Sunday to be continued...

  1. Wonderful photos. We love NO. We most enjoyed going to the city park and doing the Garden homes' tour.

  2. Wow you sure make visiting New Orleans look easy, parking and all. Great pictures. Thanks for the tips. I may actually break down and go there even though I am NOT a city fan at all and we almost never visit them.

  3. VERY nice pics! We sure enjoyed our time there, and sat and listened to the music in the square. It was soooo fun!

  5. Brought back lots of memories, our trip was highlighted by joining in an impromptu parade, Larry the Cable Guy was filming in the french quarter and got a parade going. Spent lots of time listening to music in the Musical Legends Park and eating beignets.
