Galveston, oh Galveston - Sat., Aug. 2

That's right, we're headed to Galveston for four days to listen to and feel those sea winds blowin'. Can't wait to be on the road again. [Jeez, I feel like I'm singing a country western medley with lyrics by Glen Campbell and Willie Nelson.]

After 5-1/2 days of work this week, I'm really looking forward to this get-away planned by Bob. He bought tickets for us to go on the super duper tour at NASA's Space Center Houston! One day is a guided tour and we have a second day to go through all the museums. How cool is that?

Time to prep the inside of Rigamarole (our 5th wheel) for take-off. We leave Sunday morning.

While we're gone my Escape pod is in the shop getting it's 100,000 mile service, having transmission diagnostics, recall work done, and having the brakes checked. Gotta keep my Escape in tip-top shape.

While we're in Galveston we plan to do some Volksmarches, maybe even one in Houston. We'll see how our time goes.

Future plans are taking shape for our September/October trip to Wisconsin and Michigan. Bob suggested we add on more state capitals so I can work on my Volksmarch State Capitals patch. I see some upcoming nights being spent on the logistics of where to park our 5th wheel for walks in downtowns.

Stay tuned.

Travel Bug out.

  1. Thinking of going to Galveston State Park on our way to Port A, think we would enjoy the NASA tour. Living near Houston in the 60's one of my school trips took was to NASA, would be great to tour it again.

    1. We want to drive through Galveston State Park while we're here to scope it out. This trip was wanted to stay right in town to be close to our walks and closer to the Space Center.

  2. I'll be interested to see how the Space Center tour is. We plan to visit with our friends, the Zs at some point during our stay in Texas.

  3. Can you explain Volksmarch? I am a walker, but have not heard of VM. Have been following your blog forever....well, not since the beginning of time, but a long time. Do you ever have injuries from walking? If so, what have you experienced and how did you treat it?

    1. You can find lots of information about Volksmarching on the ava.org website. On their home page, hover your mouse over "About Us" to get a drop-down list, then choose "What We're About." If you read all that you'll have a really good idea.

I also wrote two blogs about Volksmarching:
      1. http://travelbug-susan.blogspot.com/2012/04/volkssporting.html
      2. http://travelbug-susan.blogspot.com/2012/09/volksmarching-for-beginners-thurs-sep-13.html

Yes, I did have a major injury on a walk. Read about it here:

      and here:

I still love Volksmarching and do it everywhere we go. I'm working on my state capitals award book, my 3,000 km distance book and my 300 events book. There are all kinds of other books you can work on when you do the walks if you're so inclined, things like bakeries, cities in song, water towers, stuff like that.

      Good questions. Thanks for asking.

  4. Awesome.... I know I can always count on you to scope out fun places in TX for me. We hope to visit Galveston in Oct/Nov before heading back over to Port A then Rockport. Hopefully you can provide the good and the bad of Galveston State Park or any other camping spot on the island. Have fun and safe travels :-)
