A-to-Z, Adventurer, Appreciation, April Fools, Anniversary

Step right up ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it's time for the annual A-to-Z Challenge; this year marks my third go at this month-long writing exercise. I don't know why the challenge starts on April Fool's Day. Maybe the joke is on us. I am the 2,196th person to sign up for the challenge. You can still sign up join us until April 2, 2014, 9:59 am, United States - Eastern Standard Time.

Here's a brief recap of what the challenge entails: Each day of the month is assigned one letter of the alphabet in numeric order, i.e., 4/1 = A, 4/2 = B, 4/3 = C, 4/4 = D, 4/5 = E, 4/6 = free day (no alphabet challenge on Sundays so you can rest -- or not), and so on. On the day of each letter, the challenge is to write about something that starts with that letter of the day.

On my writing challenge, I bold major words starting with the letter of the day the first time I use them in a challenge blog (not required). Here we go.

Adventurer (from a fortune cookie, but so apropos!)

"You are an adventurer traveling on the highway of life."
It's not often you get a fortune cookie that tells it like it is. While it's not REALLY a fortune, we love excitement and actively seek adventure in our lives.

Appreciation

Kudos to Bob. Yesterday, he went up on the roof and re-sealed the roofing on the front edge of our bedroom. The seal had dried and we had been told by our RV repairman that it needed to be re-done. After 25+ years in the roofing industry, industrious Bob took care of the issue. He still needs to do the edges around the vents and AC units, but I'm sure he'll be up there this weekend finishing up. Thanks, studmuffin!

April Fools

Sigh. I hit Walmart early this morning to stock up on much-needed supplies, especially  toilet paper. As I was cruising the store, the Bee Gees lyrics, "The joke was on me," was running through my head, probably because of April Fool's Day. When I was looking for the RV/marine rapidly dissolving toilet paper, it had been moved and I didn't find it where it used to be located. As I'm searching, U2's song, "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," was playing in the store. Sure, Walmart, move everything around on April Fool's Day, then play "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." I got a good laugh out of that before I asked the stocking clerk where they moved the RV T.P. The joke really was on me. Well played, Walmart, well played.

Anniversary

Today was supposed to be my day off at the insurance office; however, the staff was having a surprise 10th Anniversary Party for the agent. They wanted me to answer phones so they could decorate and then meet with customers and other agents who came in. I worked from 11:30 am to 5:00 p.m. What a touching surprise for her. Free food was involved. Nice.

All in all, a great day.

  1. I tried writing daily blogs once but way more than I can do. Of course, then the activities stack up and even writing a blog every few days gets to be a lot. Good luck with the challenge but I know you'll make it.

  2. This is my third year doing the A-to-Z Challenge. It truly inspires and encourages me to write every day. I usually end up writing more than I need to. And I have to be creative to come up with a topic on days when nothing is happening. Good brain stretcher.

  4. I would never be able to do this challenge. It is going to be fun following along to see how you handle some of the strange letters in our alphabet.
