Leon Creek Greenbelt Volksmarch and Update on Bob - Tues., March 17

What better place to walk on St. Patrick's Day than a greenbelt? Even though there was a threat of rain, we decided to go for it. The temperature was in the mid 60s with very high humidity. Thankfully, it was quite cloudy, so we didn't have to deal with high temperatures.

The 10k walk started at the Valero Trailhead behind the Drury Inn at the intersection of I-10 and 1604 in the northwest section of San Antonio. This is a wide flat, paved trail used by bicyclists, runners, and walkers. Because it was a Tuesday morning, not many people were out and about.

The trail goes close to University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA). We passed dorms and one of the campus buildings. Along the way, we saw some unusual toadstools, site preparation for new buildings, and a roadunner.

Meep! Meep!
We finished our Volksmarch by 11:00 am. As we headed home, it rained. We completed our walk just in time.

Costco was on my way home and I needed a few items, plus I had one of their hot dogs for lunch. Hunger sets in after a 6.2 mile walk!

Because of the rain, I used my umbrella. At home I opened the umbrella to let it dry out, when who should appear but Sunnie. My sunshine cat loves umbrellas!

Looks quite cozy, doesn't he?
Tuesday evening, Susan, her husband Darren, and I attended the Randolph Roadrunners Volksmarch Club meeting. (See what I did there? Segued from the photo of the roadrunner to the Roadrunner club meeting.)

When the meeting was over, I stopped by the office where Bob works and he gave me the grand tour. (It is on the way home from the Roadrunner meeting place.) He loves his new job and the people with whom he works. His office is very nice, although he needs to personalize it. I forgot to take photos. All in good time.

Update on Bob's surgery (Tuesday, March 24): Bob had his follow-up appointment with the plastic surgeon today. It has been two weeks since his surgery. Bob was very happy to be given the okay to resume his normal activities: running and basketball. He needs to keep his neck covered whenever he's out in the sun to protect the skin flap. If he doesn't, the skin flap will turn dark brown.

In the past, he has always worn baseball caps when he's outside. However, they don't provide enough protection. So, he ordered two hats: one with a much wider brim, and one with a fabric flap that hangs down on the sides and back to protect his ears and neck.

Can you tell that today is "catch up on blogs day"?

  1. Nice road runner catch! Gotta have the camera ready for those guys!

Glad to hear Bob is doing well. I was thinking he was going to need one of those hats with a neck covering flap on it!

  2. This roadrunner stood in the trail for a bit. As we got closer, it moved off into the grasses, but kept looking at us. I guess this one wasn't camera shy.
