Flood photo blog from Bob - Sat., May 25

When Bob returned from work (no problems getting home), he took my camera and recorded his impressions of the flood near the RV park. Keep in mind the water has receded 8" at our RV site since I took photos earlier in the day.

The park manager and maintenance man retrieved our yellow tire stoppers (chocks) and put our spare propane tank at the site next door. It had floated off.

Bob retrieved our spare propane tank from next door and our mat.

Here we are, water has receded 8" from earlier today.

Bob also headed out on the Riverwalk extension at Roosevelt and found...

The river had receded from the arches.
In the following photo, the irrigation pipe seen to the right of the path is usually down the riverbank to irrigate the lower portion of the bank. It floated up to its current position.
Debris way up the riverbank.
In the photo above, you can see debris from the high water mark. At the left top, you can see the top of the arch on the bridge. That's how high the water rose.

Debris by the path.
Debris from the river hung up on a picnic table.

The river is very high, normal level is about one-fourth this.
Stranded fish.
Thank you, Bob, for wading in the flooded park to get photos of the Riverwalk - Mission Reach and more photos of the flooded section of the park.

Here are photos he took of the dry section of the park too. The whole park was not flooded.

    1. Us too! Our TV cable box was 1" from being underwater. Plus my car had water to the bottom of the chassis (until I moved it to the dry side of the park).

  2. Glad the water has gone down. Amazing. I'm pretty sure we stayed there several years ago with our popup. Crazy to see the water up that high!

    1. Park manager says the last time the water was this high was 2007. Newscasters said 2008.

  3. Just reading some bad news about flooding in San Antonio. Hope you are safe and dry. That's a great turtle shot.

    1. We are safe and dry. Water is now only 2" around our 5th wheel. Much better!

  4. I can't believe how much of the park is flooded. Weather has been so strange everywhere.

    1. It was a shock to us too. We knew this site and two or three around it flooded when we asked to stay here, but we didn't think it would get this high. Oh, well, we know it is only bad once in a while and subsides within a day. We like the site.

    1. We are in a different site now than the one we were in when you were here. We wanted more space and to be out from the under the tree dripping sap, seed pods and bird droppings. Now we have floods. C'est la vie. It goes away quickly, though. And this flood was particularly bad.

The turtle shot is good. Bob likes taking photos and has a good eye.

  6. Tell Bob he got some great photos. We didn't get anything like this in Schertz. We are on higher ground. Run-off ditches were all flooded but that is what they are designed for. Just remember I have room if you need an escape point.

    1. Thank you, Colleen. Bob really does take good photos.

Thanks for the offer to escape if we need to.

  7. Wow! That was a lot of water. Glad you guys are ok. Hope the rains pace themselves rather than come all at once.

    1. So far today we've only had sprinkles. Forecast is 80% chance of heavy rain through 6:00 p.m. There are some pretty dark clouds out there. Wind has picked up too. It's 1:15 now, so hopefully we don't have downpours. There's nowhere for it to go. The ground is saturated.

  8. We know exactly how fast that rain can come down in Texas and how much can accumulate! It's not fun either. The thing in Texas is that you know the weather is going to change. There just has to be sunshine in your future.

  9. Isn't if funny how scarey it is when you are in the thick of the occasion but how exciting it is to write about after the fact. Bob takes nice pictures and your writing has told the story rather well.
Well told, both posts. Blessings and a dry spot from Geoff.

  10. We're sure glad the water didn't get any higher and cause serious problems for you guys. Sorry to hear you have a leak. That can be so frustrating. The pictures are amazing. As we walked along the river in that area, it's so hard to imagine the water getting that high. But, I know the rain was really needed as Texas was so dry!

  12. Already it is looking much better. I find it interesting that the bikers would take a ride with all the water mess and debris on the trails. That's real dedication to get their ride in.

Glad things are looking better for you and Bob.

    1. Riding bikes or walking on the Riverwalk path in this area (Mission Reach) would be an obstacle course right now.

All is dry around the RV now.

    1. Water is gone. Leak has not been fixed. Bob had to work today. They need to get furniture moved into the new office today because everyone works tomorrow. (Yes, even though it's Memorial Day.)

  14. The water in the pictures of these last two blogs is unbelievable. So glad you didn't lose anything, especially your home. That was so nice of Bob to sit outside in a chair to show just how high the water was then. Take care!

  15. Didn't Bob know there are easier ways to wash your feet??? ;c)
