Willow Wildflower Loop and Hwy 965 (Texas) - Sunday, March 27, 2016

Continuation of Easter Sunday blog...

When we left Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, we headed north on Hwy 965 on our way to the Willow Wildflower Loop off of TX Hwy 16. What a surprise we were in for! As we drove north, we started seeing bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush along both sides of the highway. They created a beautiful palette of blue and red.

We turned south on TX 16 and had many wildflowers there as well. We turned left onto Willow Loop Rd for a 13-mile drive through the Texas Hill Country.

From the Willow Wildflower Loop we high-tailed it home. We were spent.

At home, we had lunch of salads and took a nap. That was a fulfilling day.

Travel Bug out.

  2. I love driving through the Hill Country in the Spring. Totally jealous. After we first moved to Kansas, I looked it up to see if either bluebonnets or Indian Paintbrush would grow here. They say neither can. I might try it sometime just to see if they would in a well protected area.

    1. There are different kinds of lupine (which is what bluebonnets are). We had lupine and Texas paintbrush in Oregon, but they were at higher elevations on the mountains. Maybe there's a type of lupine or Indian paintbrush that will grow in Kansas. A garden center would probably know.

    1. These are the best wildflowers I've seen since we first came to Texas in 2012. That was a stellar year, probably better than this one.
