9.3 Miles, 1,100 feet in elevation -- Wed., Aug. 1

Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming:

This morning when we arrived at the Jenny Lake Visitor Center parking lot, the sky was threatening rain. Thunder and lightning followed. I went into the Visitor Center and asked the ranger about the weather and the hike we had planned to Bradley and Taggart Lakes. She discouraged that hike due to lack of cover if a lightning storm broke out (which it had). Her recommendation was Cascade Canyon. Since that was the Volkswalk we planned to do on Thursday, we just reversed the order of the days we did them.

As we got onto the boat to cross Jenny Lake, the lightning flashed. The boat was delayed five minutes due to the lightning. The storm passed and we ended up having the most wonderful hiking day. The weather cleared with no more rain or lightning the rest of the day!

On our hike, we saw three moose, two of them up close and personal. Our Volkswalk today was 9.3 miles with 1,100 vertical ft. The hike was great!

The pictures are awesome, but I haven't transferred them from camera to computer. Stay tuned.

More to follow in a week or so...whenever we get internet again. I will post pics and the whole story about today. Well, I didn't get to the rest of the story until October 5. Here it is: Cascade Canyon, Grand Tetons National Park (Reblogged).

To paint a picture for you, we are sitting in the Dairy Queen in Jackson, Wyoming because they have free wi-fi. We've been here 2-1/2 hours so I could get my blogs written and pictures inserted for the past three days. It's time to go. Our butts are sore!

Tomorrow we will do our 10K (6.2 mi.) Volkswalk to Bradley and Taggart Lakes with 1,400' in elevation changes.

Look for more in a week or so.

Travel Bug out.

  3. Keep on having fun & doing new things! Tom finally got surgery to fix his knee replacement from May. Told Dr Merry Christmas & we finally left FL & sitting on the lake in Chattanooga, TN. Lots cooler here. We are trying to lose some weight & get Tom's knee back in shape to do some hiking. It will be awhile before we catch up with y'all! Funny, your post reminder Tom to take back his air compressor he bought gate guarding last Dec out in TX. Needed to add air to the tires before leaving & it had stopped working. Grrrr. Love the pics. Stay safe, Lynn
